Design is solving problems

The notion of design and what a designer does has changed over the past decades. It's not just about creating beauty, because that would be kind of subjective, right? Design is about solving a problem first.

Ever changing job titles have been the precursor of decoupling form and function. There are graphic designers, web designers, UX designers, interior designers and even plenty more job titles which do not necessarily contain the word "designer", but actually involve a lot of designing.

I like to think that we only hire designers at Pixelpillow. People who are able to solving a client's or a user's problem, within a context. Yes, it might require you to sketch out a UI, or implement a bit of code, but all is vain when it does not solve the actual problem.
